Village Board Briefer: Feb. 7

Monday evening, the village board talked about snow, grants and special requests.

The Village Board met Monday evening and discussed the blizzard of 2011 among other village business. Here were a few hot topics:

During the public meeting section, no applications, or new project ideas were submitted for projects eligible under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.
During the open public forum section of the meeting of the President and Board of Trustees Monday, Mayor James Sexton extended a "thank you" to all of the Evergreen Park departments for helping during last week's blizzard.
Trustees approved a grant application for the 2011 CDBG Program for $590,000 for the Senior Center project. Village Public Works director Bill Lorenz said he expects the center to be open for service by March.
A request from the Senior Citizen Council of Evergreen Park was approved. The council asked for permission to use and the ice rink area on May 7 for a village-wide garage sale called "Memories to Go." The sale will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
A request from the Evergreen Park Athletic Association to use Norris Field for the 2011 baseball season sparked conversation among trustees. Trustee Norbert Smith is asking the association to replace a sign on California Ave. between 89th and 90th Street, in honor of Bob Norris, former trustee. "He did everything for people. He was a real 'citizen' person," said Smith.
