Wind Advisory: Frequent Gusts Could Affect Tuesday-Evening Drivers
With 40 to 50 mph gusts, watch yourselves and tall trucks on the roads, the National Weather Service advises. Also, a 48-hour look ahead.

A “wind advisory” will remain in effect throughout Tuesday evening’s rush hour, with frequent gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour and sustained winds of 35 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Driving on north-south roads can be difficult in these winds, the NWS warns, particularly for high-profile vehicles such as semi-tractor trucks. Use caution during your evening commute.
High winds this afternoon downed power lines and shut down Route 6 near the Hollywood Casino in Joliet, according to police. Small tree limbs are susceptible to damage in these wind conditions.
Wednesday through Thursday, the NWS predicts frost and near-freezing conditions are possible in the Chicago area as a low-pressure system from Canada moves through. The most extreme weather will land north of Illinois, however, with late-season snow forecast for Minnesota and Michigan’s upper peninsula. Rain is expected across the Great Lakes.
