'You Deserve It,' Alleged Shooter Yells At Murder Victim's Burial

Man fires single gunshot into Palos Height's murder victim's grave during burial service yelling, 'you deserved it,' prosecutors said.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL -- As friends and family gathered Wednesday around the gravesite of a man gunned down in his Palos Heights home last week, a man came up and fired a single gunshot into the grave, prosecutors said. Elston Stevenson, 56, appeared in holiday bond court on charges of unlawful use of a weapon by felon and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

Friends and family had gathered at Evergreen Cemetery on Wednesday at a service for 39-year-old Murad Talib, who was shot to death in his home on Nov. 20. Some of the mourners noticed a man, later identified as Stevenson, encroaching upon the gathering, according to Chicago Tribune reports. Stevenson allegedly drew a gun and fired a single shot into the grave, shouting, “You deserved it!” No one was hit by gunfire.
