Appraiser Sought For Possible LW North Sale
District 210 will ask firms for estimates on how much it would cost to appraise the closed school building.

FRANKFORT, IL — Appraisers are being sought by Lincoln-Way High School District 210 in an effort to possibly sell the recently closed Lincoln-Way North High School, according to the Daily Southtown. Currently, the Frankfort Square Park District rents out parts of the school, and D210 Supt. Scott Tingley said at Thursday's school board meeting that any sale would need to cover at least $100 million in outstanding construction bonds on the building, the report added.
The district's first step in considering a sale will be to ask firms for estimates to see how much it will cost to appraise the school, the report stated. The closed building costs around $300,000 annually to maintain right now, and a district spokeswoman told the Southtown that the yearly operating costs would be around $2 million if the building was rented out.
Last month, L-W North, 19900 Harlem Ave., was vandalized when five people allegedly broke in to the school and sprayed several of the school's fire extinguishers throughout the building. So far, three boys have been charged in the incident, which caused at least $5,000 worth of damage to the school.M

The D210 school board voted, 5-2, to close L-W North in August of 2015 as a cost-cutting measure after the school system landed on the state's financial watch list. Despite legal challenges and a fight from parents, the school, which drew students from Frankfort, Frankfort Square, Tinley Park and Mokena, officially shuttered its doors in June of 2016.
