Frankfort Holds Open House To Discuss Downtown Planning Study

FRANKFORT, IL — The Village of Frankfort will hold an open house workshop on Feb. 25 for its Downtown Urban Design and Planning Study.

The meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. in the lower level of Trail's Edge Brewing Company, 20 Kansas St.

At the event, residents and business owners can share input about the study, which is being conducted by The Lakota Group, the Village said. The Village website states there will be multiple opportunities to get involved with giving input on the study, including through stakeholder interviews, community open houses, online surveys and the project website.

"Our downtown is considered one of the most important assets of Frankfort," Mayor Keith Ogle said during Tuesday's Village Board meeting.

"We want to make sure that the design process of this, [that] everyone has input," Ogle added. "And that we don't rush through this."

The Board approved a $65,000 proposal in December 2025 with The Lakota Group. The timeline for the study should be completed with a draft of the master plan in April.

The study is going to focus on Kansas Street, between Ash and Oak streets, as well as the rest of the downtown area. According to Board documents, the Village wants to explore options related to Kansas Street streetscape and public way. The street is used for outdoor dining in the warmer months.
