8 Referendum Questions to Appear on April Ballots in Kane Co.
A look at the questions as they will appear on voters ballots.

Eight referendum questions will appear on ballots in Kane County during the upcoming April election, according to the Kane County Clerk’s Office website.
Five of the eight questions will come from fire protection districts. Meanwhile, the Geneva Public Library District will be asking voters to approve $21.8 million in library bonds to build a new library and the Kane County Forest Preserve District will be asking voters to OK $50 million in bonds to acquire and preserve forests and natural lands, protect wildlife habitats, enhance flood control, improve hiking and biking trails and fishing and other recreational areas, provide forest and wildlife education programs and improve forest preserves, wetlands and prairies.

Kane County Forest Preserve
PROPOSITION TO ISSUE $50,000,000 GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS OF THE FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT OF KANE COUNTY, ILLINOIS
Shall the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, Illinois, borrow money and issue general obligation bonds in the amount of $50,000,000 to acquire and preserve forests and natural lands, protect wildlife habitats, enhance flood control, improve hiking and biking trails and fishing and other recreational areas, provide forest and wildlife education programs and improve forest preserves, wetlands and prairies, all in accordance with the purposes authorized by the Downstate Forest Preserve District Act of the State of Illinois, as amended?|The approximate impact of the proposed increase on the owner of a single-family home having a market value of $250,000 would be $22 in the first year of the increase if the increase is fully implemented.

Hampshire Fire Protection District
Proposition to Create a New Tax Rate for Emergency and Rescue Fund Purposes
Shall the Hampshire Fire Protection District, Kane and DeKalb Counties, Illinois, be authorized to levy a new tax for emergency and rescue crews and equipment purposes and have an additional tax of .10% of the equalized assessed value of the taxable property therein extended for such purposes? YES NO
Hampshire Fire Protection District
Proposition to Create a New Tax Rate for Tort Liability Fund Purposes
Shall the Hampshire Fire Protection District, Kane and DeKalb Counties, Illinois, be authorized to levy a new tax for tort liability purposes and have an additional tax of .15% of the equalized assessed value of the taxable property therein extended for such purposes? YES NO
Burlington Community Fire Protection District
Proposition to Create a New Tax Rate for Tort Liability Fund Purposes
Shall the Burlington Community Fire Protection District, Kane and DeKalb Counties, Illinois, be authorized to levy a new tax for tort liability purposes and have an additional tax of .145% of the equalized assessed value of the taxable property therein extended for such purposes? Yes No

Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire District
PROPOSITION TO ISSUE $8,500,000 GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS
Shall the Pingree Grove and Countryside Fire Protection District, Kane County, Illinois, build and equip two new fire stations and issue its bonds to the amount of $8,500,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?

Fox River & Countryside Fire Rescue District
Shall the extension limitation under the Property Tax Extension Limitation Law for the Fox River & Countryside Fire-Rescue District, Kane and DuPage Counties, Illinois, be increased from the lesser of 5% or the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index over the prior levy year to 95% per year for the 2017 levy year?
(1) For the 2017 levy year the approximate amount of the additional tax extendable against property containing a single family residence and having a fair market value at the time of the referendum of $100,000 is estimated to be $86.00

Elgin Township
PROPOSITION FOR A NEW TAX RATE UNDER THE PROPERTY TAX EXTENSION LIMITATION LAW FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF ELGIN
Shall Elgin Township, Kane County, Illinois be authorized to levy a new tax for the sole and exclusive purpose of providing services to senior citizens under Article 220 of the Township Code, including but not limited to construction, maintenance repair, and operation of a senior center, and have an additional tax of 0.025% of the taxable property therein extended for such purposes?|(1) The approximate amount of taxes extendable at the most recently extended limiting rate is $1,849,846 and the approximate amount of taxes extendable therefor if the proposition is approved is $2,269,541.|(2) For the 2016 levy year the approximate amount of the additional tax extendable against property containing a single family residence and having a fair market value at the time of the referendum of $100,000 is estimated to be $8.33.

Shall the bonds of the Geneva Public Library District, Kane County, Illinois, in the amount of $21,800,000 be issued for the purpose of erecting a building to be used as a library on District owned property, improving said property, including parking, and furnishing necessary equipment for said library building?
