St. Peter Girls Win ACS Invitational, Boys Third

On a near perfect day for track and field the St. Peter girls track team was dominant in a strong field of 9 teams Saturday at Aurora Christian for the Aurora Christian Invitational. It was the sprinters turn to lead the team as 100 meter dash specialist 8th grader Savannah Volk (13.80 seconds), 7th grader Therese Hein in the 200 meter dash (29.92 seconds) and the 4x100 team of Therese Hein, Rachel Tork (7th grade), Sarah Ashbrook (8th grade) and Savannah Volk (57.24 seconds) all won their events. The girls scored 118 overall points followed by Cross Lutheran with 87 points and Aurora Christian with 64 points. The St. Peter girls showed incredible depth as they scored points in every event at the meet.

Meanwhile the boys team, consisting of only 5 8th graders and 11 5th - 7th grade athletes showed their toughness in spite of their relative youth with a strong 3rd place finish. Crossroads placed first with 98 points, Bethany Lutheran was second with 76 points followed by the St. Peter boys with 58 points. 8th graders Charlie Zimmer and Thomas Hein led the way with wins in the 1600 meter run (5:22) and shotput throw (30 ft, 2 in.) respectively.

Overall it was another day of many personal bests for Rocket Track and Field and the team is reaching it's peak just in time for the IESA (Illinois Elementary School Association) Sectional meet on Saturday where athletes from 17 schools will compete against the best each has to offer for a chance to qualify for the IESA State Meet. The Rockets will travel to Carmel High School in Mundelein for the 17 team sectional and compete against cross country rival and track and field powerhouse Fox River Grove amongst others.
