St. Peter Track Finishes A Strong Second In Opening Meet

St. Peter Track has a strong start to the 2013 season.

It was a close call last Saturday as St. Peter of Geneva nearly toppled perennial track powerhouse Annunciation of Aurora at Marmion Academy. It was apparent at the meet that St. Peter was scoring big points in nearly every category they competed in. However they came up 58 points short in a valiant second place effort with 487 points compared to meet winner Annunciation's point total of 545. St. Mary of Plano placed third with 309 points with OLGC/St. Peter (Aurora), St. Paul Lutheran (Aurora) and Holy Cross of Batavia finishing 4th - 6th  respectively.

Led by 8th graders MaryGrace Phelan and Charlie Zimmer, the St. Peter student-athletes broke many personal records throughout the morning. Phelan won both the 100 meter hurdles and the 800 meter run and Zimmer won the 1600 meter run while finishing second in the high jump. Also of note were 7th grader Matt Will who won both discus and shotput and 6th grade athlete Henry Bliss who placed first in both the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run.

St. Peter will face Holy Angels of Aurora next Saturday in what promises to be another tough and exciting Aurora Conference match at Rosary High School. Holy Angels also won their first conference meet of the season edging out St. Rita by a score of 506 - 448.
