Dale and Linda Drendel, owners of the Lindal Holstein Farm in Hampshire, hosted a dairy breakfast and farm tour on that Saturday morning. They must have prepared breakfast for 1,500 to 2,000 people as they gently taught us about where our food really comes from.

Not only that, but they and some of their more patient dairy cows were kind enough to provide me with an opportunity to experience my first milking lesson.

One of the cutest animals I’ve ever seen, lying peacefully on freshly-cut straw, were 7 to 10 day old Holstein calves. Did you know they’re born at 100 pounds each?
Finally, the Drendel’s and many other Kane County farmers host foreign farming experts, to show off our the county’s plentiful bounty and specific expertise.
