Check out this NPR article about a new type of development being termed “development-supported agriculture.” In these types of new residential neighborhoods, on-site farming is the core amenity. Over 200 such developments already exist in the U.S.
Adding to that number is a development right here in Kane County, Serosun Farms! “A progressive rural oasis,” Serosun Farms is a working sustainable farm located near Hampshire in northern Kane County. Plans have been approved for 117 homes to be incorporated within the 404-acre property. 60% of the property will be preserved as agriculture and open space, consisting of farm fields, pasture, woodlands, prairie, wetlands, and eight miles of trials. An on-site farmers’ market will serve Serosun residents.
