Faith Christian rides aggressive defense to 4th straight hoops win

Faith Christian Academy used full-court defensive pressure to build a 12-0 first-quarter lead en route to a 30-12 victory over Haines Middle School's eighth-grade B team, the Falcons' fourth consecutive win of the girls basketball season. Good work, Falcons!

FCA (4-2 season record) overwhelmed Haines in the first half with full-court and 3/4-court defensive presses, forcing numerous turnovers that kept the Hurricanes scoreless until the third quarter and led to easy baskets for the Falcons. Faith built leads of 12-0 after one quarter, 18-0 at halftime and 23-2 through three quarters. The Falcons' lead could have been larger, but the team called off its full-court press after carving out an 18-0 advantage. The Falcons saved some energy for their crosstown rivalry game against Geneva South coming up at 4 p.m. Monday in the FCA gym.

Lauren Caprini paced Faith with eight first-quarter points and a game-high 14 points along with 10 steals, two assists and two rebounds for a double-double performance (double figures in two statistical categories). Great all-around game, Lauren!

Jessica Smith added 7 points and 9 steals to share hustle award honors with Lauren. Anneliese Lockner won the best attitude award with 7 steals, 6 rebounds, 4 points and 2 assists.
