Faith Christian sweeps Naperville Christian in double-digit routs

Faith Christian Academy's boys basketball teams swept Naperville Christian Academy for the second time in a month on Tuesday. The Falcons' JV team routed Naperville 46-22, and the varsity built a 48-19 lead en route to a 48-37 victory in the nightcap. Good job by both teams!

Ben Riner provided great production and leadership in the JV game, scoring a team-high 22 points with 5 rebounds, a team-best 4 steals and 0 turnovers. Ben shot 8 for 13 from the field and 6 for 6 from the free-throw line in an efficient effort. Ben earned the hustle award for his performance. Outstanding work, Ben!

Leading 8-6, the Falcons clamped down on defense and revved up their offense, outscoring Naperville 22-2 to build a 30-8 halftime lead. Chris Nosewicz provided solid support with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Cole Schulze added 6 points and 3 assists, and Derek Haaf and Ethan Hansen contributed 4 points apiece.

The varsity Falcons accumulated a 27-point lead en route to the win in game two. FCA broke open a 4-4 tie, holding Naperville scoreless the rest of the first quarter while reeling off 10 unanswered points for a 14-4 lead. Faith stretched its lead to 28-8, then blew the game open with a 14-2 third-quarter run that gave FCA a 46-19 lead.

Greg Betzelos attacked the lane throughout the first three quarters, scoring a season-high 33 points on 15-of-24 shooting, mostly off drives and cuts to the basket. Greg also played strong defense, swiping 5 steals and hauling in 11 rebounds, earning the hustle award. Greg all-around performance, Greg! Ben Riner added 11 points and 3 assists.

Faith Christian is now 8-4 overall, going 4-3 in varsity games and 4-1 in JV action. The Falcons' varsity squad next plays Einstein Academy at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Elgin.
