Falcons soar past Wredling's Redhawks in battle of the birds

Faith Christian rode outstanding serving to quick wins over Wredling Middle School's eighth- and seventh-grade B teams in volleyball action on Monday at FCA.

The Falcons' varsity squad (6-2) went 23 for 25 serving in the first set against the Redhawks' 8B team, winning the set 25-10. Nicki "Good Night" Smith led FCA with 8-for-8 serving and four service winners.
 
The Falcons (10-2 overall) served even better in set two, going 24 for 25 to prevail 25-7. Gigi "Destiny" Crescenzo went 15 for 15 with eight service winners, and Anneliese "Lock Ness Monster" Lockner delivered 8 for 8 serving with four aces and three service winners. Ally "Wally" Will added four kills and a block kill to Faith's cause.

Anneliese earned the hustle award, and Lauren "Condor" Caprini won the best attitude award.

The JV Falcons (4-0) provided similarly strong serving in their match with Wredling's 7B team. Faith went 23 for 24 serving in the opening set to defeat the Hawks 25-11. Mackenzie "Mack" VanDerSnick (6 for 6, three aces), Liz "Doc" Watson (3 for 3, one service winner), Corrin "Cobra" Schulze (5 for 5, three service winners), Jessica "Cannon" Chiaro (5 for 5, three service winners) and Gigi (4 for 4, two aces) wore down Wredling with accurate serving.

Jessica "Special K" Kohlmeyer propeled FCA to a 10-1 lead in the second set with 10-for-11 serving en route to a 25-5 victory. Paige "Broadway" Petty kept the lead growing with 12-for-13 serving and nine service winners. Julia "JT" Turek added a good serve on her lone attempt to round out the serving.

Rose "Mighty Mac" McCormick and Jessica Kohlmeyer shared the best attitude award, while Paige won the hustle award.

FCA practices Tuesday till 5:15 p.m. to prepare for 7th- and 8th-grade matches with Rotolo Middle School on Wednesday and Mooseheart on Thursday as well as an eighth-grade tournament in Elgin this weekend.
