Geneva Commons Tree Lighting, Visits With Santa Kick Off Holidays

Ferdie's Cabin Food Truck will also be at the celebration to give out free hot chocolate to patrons.

GENEVA, IL — Still deciding where to go see a tree-lighting ceremony this season? Fear not, for there are plenty of events to check out in and around Geneva. Aside from the city's lighting ceremony during the Christmas Walk Dec. 3, the community can also check out a celebration at the Geneva Commons Nov. 26, also the day Black Friday falls on this year.

The mall is kicking off the holiday season starting at 4 p.m. For two hours, guests can visit Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus and enjoy a tree-lighting ceremony. Ferdie's Cabin Food Truck will also be at the celebration to give out free hot chocolate to patrons.

A variety of sweet treats and beverages — including marshmallow pops, hand pies, smores and hot cocoa — are also offered on Ferdie's Cabin's menu.

Coinciding with the mall's holiday celebrations is its donation effort to help the Rising Lights Project, which aims to increase awareness, education and opportunities for people with disabilities.

Artist Matthew Hoffman recently unveiled a new sculpture, "Be Uncommon," at the mall, and for every photo taken with it posted on social media with the hashtag #BeUncommonGeneva, the Commons will donate $2 to Rising Lights Project, Patch reported.
