Ex-Doctor Charged in Rape, Drug Cases Claims Police Illegally Searched His Home

A May 2015 search of his luxury home on Squire Lane in St. Charles turned up a marijuana grow operation, police said.

GENEVA, IL - A former Geneva doctor who is accused of sexually assaulting an acquaintance is now claiming authorities unlawfully searched his St. Charles home in 2015 during a drug bust that turned up 26 pounds of marijuana, 100 plants and a handgun.

Mark G. Lewis, in a court motion, is challenging whether members of the Illinois State Police’s North Central Narcotics Task Force had probable cause to search his home in the 0 to 99 block of Squire Lane in St. Charles in May 2015, according to the Daily Herald.

Authorities in an affidavit used to secure a search warrant said they removed trash bags from garbage cans that had been brought out to the road and searched the bags, finding empty food storage bags, paperwork with Lewis’ name on it and leaves that ended up testing positive for marijuana, according to the article. Lewis claims he did not move his garbage cans out to the road that night, which was Sunday, May 3.

He is accused of sexually assaulting a woman at his former St. Charles home following a party, according to the Chicago Tribune.

He has been charged with marijuana possession, marijuana production and gun possession while having a revoked state firearm owner's ID in the drug case, according to ABC 7 Chicago News. A Kane County judge revoked his bail in the sexual assault case after the drug charges were filed and Lewis remains locked up at the Kane County jail as court proceedings continue in both cases.

Lewis’ medical license was revoked earlier this year “for engaging in sexually inappropriate conduct with multiple patients of his practice and inappropriate prescribing of controlled substances to numerous individuals,” according to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
