Geneva's Cisco Hoping to Play Golf in the Big Ten
Geneva golfer misses the cut in the Illinois Open but has much to look forward to in days to come.

Geneva graduate Andrew Cisco, who made the IHSA state championship tournament last fall as an at-large qualifier, will play in the Big Ten this fall.
That is, if the freshman-to-be can make the squad as a walk-on at Iowa.
“I had some offers from some smaller schools,” Cisco said after rounds of 75-77 left him outside the cut line in the 62nd Illinois Open at Hawthorn Woods Country Club. The open ran July 25-27.

Cisco carried considerable momentum into his second-round play with back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to close out his Monday round.
But he was unable to capture any red numbers on Tuesday in authoring a 6-over performance.
“I struck the ball great,” Cisco said. “I didn’t make a birdie putt from beyond four feet the whole two days. I couldn’t birdie any of the par-5s (on Tuesday), and I had irons in my hand (on my second shots).”

Cisco was paired in the Illinois Open with Jordan Wetsch, who will be a senior at St. Charles East.
Wilmette resident Phillip Arouca held off Libertyville native Mike Schachner to complete his wire-to-wire victory with an 11-under par 202 total.
