On the Web: Taylor Bell's IHSA State Football 'Dream Team' Includes Geneva Veterinarian

As you settle in to watch state high school football playoffs today, consider the all-star team Taylor Bell put together—and the Geneva veterinarian and former NFL pro who's at the top of the list.

The day after Thanksgiving is the Illinois high school equivalent of the Super Bowl—times eight.

Although we wish the it was Geneva in Class 7A and Batavia in Class 6A playing today, it's still a day with a lot of interesting matchups, starting at 10 a.m. with the Class 1A game between Tuscola (11-2) and Dayton (11-2).

To get in the spirit, Taylor Bell of csnchicago.com wrote an excellent article picking the "Dream Team" of players who have participated in the IHSA football championship games.

And to my surprise, one of the top three has a business in Geneva!

Just three of the players on the Dream Team played pro football—Tom Thayer, of course, plus Eric Steinbach of Providence and (ta da!) offensive linemen Jim Juriga of Wheaton North.

Bell said Juriga was on Wheaton North's 1981 championship team and went on to becaome a standout at Illinois. He played for three years for the Denver Broncos and started on the Broncos' XXIV Super Bowl team. "Today, he is a veterinarian and owns a clinic, , in Geneva," Bell said.

So there you have it! A celebrity in our midst who we're sure is tuning in to the playoffs today and participating in the .
