Plant Giveaway, Recycling Event, Gardening Planned For Earth Day Celebration In Geneva

The Earth Day celebration is planned at Peck Farm Park.

GENEVA, IL — A slew of activities are planned April 18 in Geneva in celebration of Earth Day.

Participants can participate in recycling, paper shredding, chalk art, children's activities, tomato plant and tree whip giveaways, food vendors and more activities from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road. The event is sponsored by the city's Natural Resources Committee and the Geneva Park District.

Residents can recycle several items for free, including shoes, cotton clothes, small electronics and holiday lights. Televisions and computer monitors can be recycled for $25, if they're 21 inches or smaller, or $35, for 22 inches or larger.

Similar to years past, for a fee, Flat Can Recycling will recycle household items, including latex paint cans, household batteries, aerosol products, propane tanks, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and car seats.

Residents who have unwanted bicycles can bring them to the event, where Working Bikes will refurbish and donate them to families in need.

Registration for the native planting has filled up, according to the Geneva Park District. Those who will participate should plan to bring a shovel.
