Police Hold Onto Urn Left Outside Funeral Home
But the mysterious urn turns out to be not so mysterious after all.

A very unusual item in the Batavia police blotter Monday involves an urn mysteriously left at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave.
According to Batavia Police Department reports, a silver urn was found outside the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 9, with a message left for the deceased subject’s husband to contact the Police Department.
The urn was taken to the Police Department for safekeeping, according to the report filed at 12:55 p.m. Aug. 9.
The report wasn't clear whether the urn contained someone's ashes, but a member of the funeral home staff said Monday that was not the case.
"Someone dropped it off, thinking we could use it," the employee said. "But we really can't."
The employee said he wasn't at the funeral home when the urn was dropped off but speculated that the owner might have ended up scattering his wife’s remains and simply didn't know what to do with the urn except return it to the funeral home. Since the urn didn't belong to the funeral home, police held it as "found property."
