St. Peter Girls 10th at 50 Team Troy Invitational

St. Peter Girls Cross Country beats cross town rival Geneva Middle School South with a 10th place finish.

It was a beautiful day for cross country last Saturday as the St. Peter girls team ran away with a few personal records and a 10th place finish in the 8th grade 2 mile race. Led by 8th graders Rachel Tork and Toriana Turk in 32nd and 34th place (out of 250 finishers) the girls from the small school beat many teams that outsized them three to one including crosstown rivals Geneva Middle School South. In spite of the fact that 2 out of the St. Peter top 3 girls were unable to race that day they showed great depth and perseverance and managed their goal of a top 10 finish at the 50 team, 2000 runner invitational.

The 8th grade boys team finished in 21st place behind team leader Sam McEnery (8th grade) who led the St. Peter boys in 69th place. It was a great team effort as the team also had one runner missing due to illness and one runner injured while racing.

5th grader William Huber led the way for St. Peter's 7th grade boys team with an outstanding 129th place finish in a time of 13:46 out of a field of 303 runners. It was Huber's first 2 mile race and only his second race while running for St. Peter. The team, all 6th graders except for Huber finished in a respectable 27th place.

The St. Peter 5th grade boys ran also ran well, having a blast competing against 361 other runners and finishing in 32nd place.

St. Peter Cross Country is in action again on Tuesday afternoon at the Royal Cadet Invitational at Marmion Academy in Aurora. There they will compete against 11 other teams including most of their Tri-County Conference rivals.
