St. Peter's Boys Edge Cambridge Lakes In Hampshire

The 5/6th grade boys show their depth while many runners rest for sectionals.

It was worth the long trip after school on Tuesday as the St. Peter 5/6th grade boys won their division in a conference cross country contest in Hampshire, beating guest team Cambridge Lakes by a score of 41-53. With St. Peter's sectional runners resting in preparation for the IESA Sectional Meet on Saturday, 6th grader Sam Barton had a strong race finishing 2nd overall in a time of 10:26, only 2 seconds off his personal best. St. Peter's other top 10 finishers were 5th grader Ben Robertson in 6th and 6th grader Patrick Desch in 7th. Desch ran a personal best time of 10:54 in the 1.5 mile race.

The two girls running the 1.5 mile race for St. Peter also fared well with 6th grader Isabelle Koester placing 5th while 5th grader Mary Tork was 35 seconds behind Koester in 6th place.

In the 7/8th grade 1.8 mile race, 8th grader Abageal Phelan was the 4th girl to cross the finish line while 7th grader Joe Mullaghy placed 8th for the boys.

The St. Peter Cross Country team will see action next on Saturday at the IESA Sectional Meet at Westmont High School in Westmont. There they'll attempt to qualify for state by finishing in the top 3 of 13 teams in their sectional.
