First introduced in 1949 as a way to promote Geneva businesses, Swedish Days has since grown to the point where "nearly every member of the Geneva community participates," either as a volunteer, event-goer or performer, organizers said.

The annual festival will grace the streets of downtown Geneva for the 73rd annual year. Performances will be spread across three stages throughout the first four days of Swedish Days, organized by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce.

The streets that will be most impacted by the festival will be Third Street from State to South streets; James Street from Second to Fifth streets; and Campbell Street from Second to Fifth streets. Signs will be posted on wooden stakes informing visitors of parking restrictions, officials said.

Beginning June 20, James Street from Third to Fourth streets and Third Street from James to Campbell streets will close to vehicular traffic.

The 300 block of James Street will be closed until the festival ends. The Third Street block near the Kane County Courthouse will be shut down through June 24 but will be open for most of the following day except during the Swedish Days Parade, stepping off at 1 p.m. June 25.

Prior to the parade, detours will be established with police officers directing traffic at various points along the route. The following roads will be shut down during the procession:

  • State Street (Route 38) from Second Street to Logan Avenue on the west side of the Fox River
  • Third Street from State Street to Route 31
  • Anderson Boulevard from State to Union streets

As a result, westbound drivers should head north on Second Street, west on Stevens Street and south on Logan Avenue to resume driving west on Route 38. The detour route is reversed for eastbound traffic.

"The Geneva Police Department appreciates the public's patience and hopes everyone has a safe and enjoyable festival experience," officials said"
