Another Victim Stopped By Police Officer Impersonator

A man told Batavia police he was stopped by someone impersonating a police officer Friday, but saw through the scam and scared the man off.

According to a report filed at 4:26 p.m. Oct. 11, the victim told police he was approached by a man in the parking lot at 1100 Paramount Parkway, which is listed as the address of Carlisle Foodservice Products, Incorporated.

The victim told police the offender activated blue emergency lights on his vehicle, flashed a badge, identified himself as a police officer and accused the victim of breaking the law.

The victim said the man then identified himself as a “volunteer emergency responder” and left when the victim began yelling at him, reports said.

The Batavia blotter item comes about two weeks after St. Charles police charged a Genoa man with a felony count of impersonating a police officer after he reportedly patted down some teenagers, the Kane County Chronicle reported.

St. Charles Patch reported that Skyler Charles Petrancosta, 21, of the 500 block of Jackson Street, Genoa was charged at 9:25 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at the St. Charles Police Department, 211 N. Riverside Drive. 

Impersonating a police officer is a felony punishable by probation to as much as three years in prison.
