Volleyball Team Advances to Regional Final

The Vikings pulled off a victory over Wheaton North in an exciting three-set match.

After anxiously waiting an extra hour to start their game because of the exciting three-set match between Glenbard East and Metea Valley, the Geneva Vikings decided the preliminary game was so much fun, they'd have their own marathon match against Wheaton North.

It was well worth the wait.

The Vikings defeated Wheaton North in three sets and will advance to the regional final match on Saturday.

The first match went back and forth, as the Vikings and Falcons continued to make plays and earn points. After being tied 18-18, Wheaton North scored three times to lead 21-18. A Riley Sullivan spike started a rally that helped Geneva tie the score at 22, but the Falcons pulled away and won the first match 25-22.

"You guys have to talk more. Keep talking to each other," Coach KC Johnsen told his team before the second match.

The advice paid off as the Vikings rallied in their second match to defeat the Falcons 25-15.

Geneva took that momentum into the third set and another back and forth game. The Lady Vikings held off the Falcons for a 25-22 victory and a spot in Saturday's regional championship game.

"I am so happy that we were able to come back and win," said senior Brooke Morphis. "We played well, and I am excited to play Saturday."

The Vikings will play at 1 p.m. Saturday against the winner of the Batavia/Metea Valley game.
