Baseball Stories Before the Cubs and Sox

Sat., Feb.21 at 2:00 PM, Professor Bruce Allerdice presents "Before the Chicago Cubs: Baseball Comes to the Windy City," 800 N. Main St.


Celebrate the opening of spring training and join the Glen Ellyn Historical Society as Professor Bruce S. Allerdice takes a look at the National Pastime” during the 1850s and 1860s in Chicago. Titled, “Before the Chicago Cubs: Baseball Comes to the Windy City,” Saturday, February 21, at 2:00 PM in the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main Street, Allerdice focuses on how the game spread, who played it, and how the Civil War effected the spread of the game. Learn about how the Chicago Cubs were formed, and what happened when their predecessor team played our local boys, the Danby Rustics! Tickets are $5.00 for adults, students under 18 are free. Allardice is an avid sports historian, heads up the “Civil War Baseball” subcommittee for the Society of American Baseball Research and is a member of the society’s biography committee, specializing in researching the lives of 19th century ball players.
