Addison Double Homicide Suspect Apprehended

Jorge Vargas of Addison has been charged in the fatal shooting of Alberto Rios, 20, of Villa Park and Kevin Bustos, 17 of Cortland.

ADDISON, IL — Police have charged a man with two counts of first degree murder for a shooting in Addison that left two men dead Saturday. Jorge Vargas, 20, from the 500 block of Valerie Lane in Addison, has been charged in the double homicide of Alberto Rios, 20, of Villa Park, and Kevin Bustos, 17, of Cortland.

Vargas allegedly opened fire on Rios and Bustos as they drove near the intersection of Elizabeth and Denise Avenues, causing the victims to lose control of their vehicle and crash head-on into a tree.

Bustos was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound at Alexian Brothers Medical Center at 2:17 p.m. Rios was also rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds, Daily Herald reported.

Police used eyewitness accounts and security cameras to assist an extensive investigation into the Addison double homicide before they tracked down Vargas.

Vargas is currently being held in DuPage County Jail as he waits for a bond court hearing today at 4 p.m.
