American Flag Planting Honors 60 Civil War Soldiers

Tues. May 19, GEHS volunteers will place American flags on the graves of 60 Civil War soldiers.


On Tuesday, May 19, between 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM, volunteers from the
Glen Ellyn Historical Society will place American flags on the graves of Civil War veterans in preparation for Memorial Day. Forest Hill Cemetery of Glen Ellyn is one of the oldest cemeteries in the area, and was granted Landmark Status by the Village of Glen Ellyn in 2014. It is the final resting place of over 60 Civil War soldiers. This is the fourth year that the GEHS has co-ordinated a flag tribute to Civil War veterans The flags will stay in place until Tuesday, May 26 when they will be removed from the graves. Forest Hill Cemetery is located at St. Charles Road and Riford Road.
