GLEN ELLYN, IL — Two Glen Crest Middle School eighth graders recently received a Congressional honor for an app they designed. Ava Benes and Viktoriya Verymiyenko created the FridgeDash app, which earned them a first runner-up spot in the 2019 Congressional App Challenge for the 6th Congressional District.

Benes and Verymiyenko originally designed the FridgeDash app for an app design class at Glen Crest Middle School. The app, inspired by one of Benes's family members who must follow a gluten-free diet, helps users find recipes that match up with their cooking skills and any dietary restrictions they might have.

The students will receive a certificate of recognition from Rep. Sean Casten (D, IL-6) in honor of their win. In a letter to Benes and Verymiyenko, Casten said the FridgeDash app was "a creative and practical use of technology."
