Area Could Get Hit By Snow, Strong Winds Today: National Weather Service

As much as five inches of snow could fall in northern Illinois on Monday, with slight accumulation in the Wheaton and Glen Ellyn area, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS issued a special weather statement for Will, Kendall, Cook and DuPage counties on Monday, predicting strong winds resulting in blowing snow.

Snow and gusty winds could result in difficult travel through early afternoon, with bands of light to moderate snow with occasional heavy rates of snowfall, according to the weather service.

Snow is likely to continue through early evening, the NWS said.

“As temperatures fall below freezing, slushy accumulation will occur on untreated surfaces,” according to a special weather statement. “The falling snow and west winds gusting up to 40 mph will result in visibility occasionally falling below one half-mile through early afternoon before conditions improve ... Motorists are advised to use plenty of extra caution.”

The National Weather Service is predicting around one inch of total snowfall with up to two inches locally.

There is a chance of light accumulating snow again on Wednesday, according to the NWS.
