Asphalt Treatment Program Set for Sept. in Glen Ellyn

The project will apply a liquid rejuvenating agent to roads, causing road closures in mid-to-late Sept.

The Village of Glen Ellyn recently announced that an asphalt treatment program on newly paved streets will begin in mid-to-late Sept.

Now that repaving these streets in the Village is completed, the Village plans to apply a liquid rejuvenating agent called Reclamite to roadways to protect the asphalt surface. Reclamite will prolong the life of the pavement and reduce the life cycle cost of the roadways.

A distribute truck equipped with a spray bar will apply the Reclamite to the asphalt as it drives down each side of the street. Once the Reclamite is applied, it takes 30 to 90 minutes to absorb into the asphalt surface.

While the Reclamite is absorbed, the street has to be completely closed to traffic, or else car tires will track the Reclamite onto concrete or brick paver driveways.

Throughout the process of application and absorption of the Reclamite, signs and barricades will be used to close the roadways to prevent parking and driving on the street.

Next, sand is applied to the street and the streets will open again. Once sand has been applied to the street, tracking will not occur and drivers are free to travel on the roads. The sand will be swept away after a few days.

The work will be performed Tuesday to Fridays between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. If it rains, the work will occur the following day. To prevent delays in travel plans, the Village advises residents to have your vehicle out of your driveway and off the street between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the days specified in the notice provided by the contractor.

Parking is not permitted on streets being treated, but you an park on streets not identified on the map and you will not receive a parking ticket. If you don't need your vehicle on these days, you can leave it in your driveway, but not on the street.

A contractor will provide a hand-delivered notification placed at your door one to two days before the work begins.
