Saturday, March 28, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Northwest Territory Alliance is sponsoring a Beginning Spinning Workshop at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main Street in Glen Ellyn. The cost for the all day workshop registration is $15.00 for NWTA members and $20.00 for non members. Anyone who has ever wondered how wool is prepared for spinning, how yarn is prepared from wool, how a spindle and spinning wheel really works needs to spend the day with talented teachers, Yordana Sawyer and Lauren Wysocki of the NWTA. Hand spinning yarns from fiber was commonly done in homes before the Industrial Revolution. Both men and women were adept at this skill having learned it as children. In recent decades, hand spinning has enjoyed a revival as it allows the spinner to create unique yarns for knitting and crocheting. Mail registration fee to Glen Ellyn Historical Society, 800 N. Main Street, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Information is available at www.glenellynhistory.org, or call 630-469-1867 x101. Class size is limited so RSVP ASAP. Attendees need to let the NWTA teachers know if they have their own spinning wheel or have had experience with hand spinning.
