GLEN ELLYN, IL - Residents and business owners in the Village of Glen Ellyn can now enjoy an
increased reduction in flood insurance premiums due to the Village’s active participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS).
As a CRS participant since 2011, the Village was pleased to receive notification that their rating increased from a Level 8 to a Level 7. With this new rating, residents and business owners in the Village’s Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) will receive a 15 percent discount on their flood insurance premiums while those outside the SFHA will receive a 5 percent discount.
The CRS is a voluntary incentive program through the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FEMA) and the Insurance Services Office (ISO) that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements. As a result, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community actions meeting the three goals of the CRS: reduce flood damage to insurable property; strengthen and support the insurance aspects of the NFIP; and encourage a comprehensive approach to floodplain management.
