BTE Hosts "Cake Break" Discussions Sunday, Feb. 2, 16 & March 1
BTE assembles panels of people from the community for free open dialogues around the issues raised "The Cake."
Buffalo Theatre Ensemble presents “The Cake” by Bekah Brunstetter, directed by Steve Scott, now through March 1 in the Playhouse Theatre at the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. When Jen, the girl she thinks of as her “goddaughter,” asks baker Della to make her wedding cake, not for one bride but two, it is hard for Della to follow one of her tried and true set of instructions for a perfect outcome.
“One of the reasons BTE chose this beautiful play is because the characters grow to respectfully listening to those with whom they disagree and discussing their own views openly. In a time in our society when discussion is often polarized, this feels important. For those that would enjoy it, we have chosen to host some ‘cake breaks,’ where respectful conversation, with a panel of people from our community, guiding the discussion, can occur, while sharing cake, of course.” says BTE Artistic Director Connie Canaday Howard. Howard is also featured in the role of Della in BTE’s current production.
