Chicago Backs the Boys in the Civil War

The Glen Ellyn Historical Society, on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 PM, presents Kurt Carlson, resident of DuPage County, lecture on Chicago.

Because fighting the Civil War required massive amounts of supplies and transportation to get supplies and manpower to the front, Chicago was well on the way to becoming the city known today. The Glen Ellyn Historical Society, on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 PM, presents Kurt Carlson, lifelong resident of DuPage County, an attorney in Wheaton, a member of the GEHS and three Civil War Roundtables, discussing an article he authored, published in the 2011 Civil War Sesquicentennial Issue of the Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society. He tells the fascinating story how Chicago supported the men in the field, introduces the audience to prominent Chicagoans like Marshall Field as well as other interesting characters who played major roles in the Civil War experience. The program is at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main Street and tickets are available at Stacy’s Corners Store, $5.00 for adults, free for students. The store is located at 800 N. Main Street and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Call 630-469-1867 for information.
