COD College Theater Stages ‘Dead Man’s Cell Phone’ Oct. 5 to 15

College of DuPage College Theater presents “Dead Man’s Cell Phone,” Sarah Ruhl’s wildly imaginative odyssey of a woman confronting her assumptions about morality, Oct. 5 to 15 on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, in the Playhouse Theatre at COD’s McAninch Arts Center. Assistant Theatre Professor Daniel Millhouse directs.

Gordon is dead, but his cell phone lives on. When Jean, an empathetic museum worker, finds and answers his ringing phone in a café, she becomes comforter and confessor to the man’s grieving loved ones. Before she knows it, Jean is ensnarled in what is left of the dead man’s bizarre life.

“It is the relationships we forge that define our story,” Millhouse said. “Don’t miss this opportunity to ponder the power of relationships, the magic of self-discovery and the art of embracing the unknown. It is often life’s oddest moments that can lead to the most unexpected relationships.”

Millhouse recently joined College of DuPage as a full-time faculty member after serving as an adjunct faculty member in the Theatre program for the past five years. He previously was an adjunct professor at the Chicago College of Performing Arts - Roosevelt University and University of Wisconsin-Madison. Millhouse has also acted professionally for many years. His theatre credits include shows with Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, Michigan Shakespeare Festival, Great Lakes Theatre, Idaho Shakespeare Festival and the Shakespeare Project of Chicago.

A pre-show with the director and designers will be held at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. A post-show discussion with the director and the actors will be held Friday, Oct. 13.
