COD Fashion Students Hitting the Street with ‘CODE’ on May 12

COD Fashion Students Hitting the Street with 'CODE' on May 12

College of DuPage Fashion Studies students are taking their original designs to the street during “CODE,” the annual fashion show that will take place at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, in the street scene located inside the Robert J. Miller Homeland Security Education Center on the College’s main campus in Glen Ellyn.

Fashion Studies Interim Program Coordinator Eva Stevens was looking for a new location that would provide a unique setting for the show when she discovered the full-scale indoor street scene typically used to educate police, fire and emergency medical service students and cadets.

“Once I saw the space, I could immediately imagine the possibilities,” she said. “We want the show to retain that street feeling, with the runway extending down the middle of the street. Because the space is smaller than what was used in the past, we decided to produce two shows this year as it typically draws capacity audiences.

“Also, while ‘CODE’ can be interpreted in many ways, we like ‘COD Emerges,’ and the street scene is a fitting location to represent our theme.”

Students in the Fashion Promotion class are producing the show and involving other academic programs. Cosmetology students will help models with hair and makeup, while VIP swag bags will contain items created by Horticulture, Culinary Arts and Fine Arts students.

“We want people to know ‘CODE’ isn’t just about fashion. It’s an opportunity for many COD art-related programs to show off what they can do,” Stevens said. “For example, we have photography and art students creating projects that can be printed on fabric.

“All of these programs should be interwoven in a way that people can see how they work together, and ‘CODE’ is an ideal showcase to demonstrate this. We are looking forward to the excitement that our students and the new location will generate.”

Tickets are $10 for the 3 p.m. show and $20 for the 7 p.m. show, with the latter including a post-show meet and greet. For more information, call (630) 942-2619 or email stevense@cod.edu.
