College of DuPage to Host Mental Health Resource Fair Oct. 16

A mental health resource fair featuring numerous community agencies will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the Student Services Center Atrium on the College of DuPage Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
The free event, hosted by the COD's Counseling, Advising and Transfer Services Office, is designed to bring awareness to the larger COD community about mental health resources available in the DuPage area and provide education about the Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act. Representatives from 15 community organizations and agencies will be available at exhibits to discuss the mental health services they offer.
“Public education and awareness efforts are critical in dispelling myths about mental illness and breaking the stigma that prevents many people from seeking help when they need it or scares people away from assisting those with mental illness when assistance is needed,” said Dennis Emano, COD Student Mental Health Counselor.

During the panel, human service professionals, community organization representatives and students with mental illness will discuss mental health challenges on college campuses.
“Mental illnesses are treatable and our goal is to let students and the community know that help is available," said Silvia Donatelli, COD Student Mental Health Counselor.
