College of DuPage Summer Repertory Theater Presents 'Godspell' July 5 to 14 at the MAC

College of DuPage College Theater presents “Godspell,” a timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love shared through song and dance, Friday, July 5, to Sunday, July 14.

Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday in the McAninch Art Center’s Playhouse Theatre on the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. There is no performance Friday, July 12.

Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, “Godspell” chronicles a small group of disciples helping Jesus tell parables by using a variety of storytelling techniques mixed with an eclectic blend of songs ranging from pop to vaudeville.

“For our retelling, we’re setting the show in 2019, in an urban city lot that’s been converted to playground/garden,” said College of DuPage Theater Professor and Director Connie Canaday Howard. “This will be a real immersive experience for audience members as we truly make them feel a part of the show as we incorporate the entire theater, including the aisles, into our production.”

This masterful retelling of the original sensation includes contemporary references and dazzling new arrangements of chart-topping songs by Stephen Schwartz including "Day by Day," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All Good Gifts" and much more.
