Cuisine and Spirits on the Menu for Next Danish Home Anniversary Event

The Danish Home of Chicago boutique senior living community will celebrate its 125th anniversary with a savory night of "Cuisine and Spirits

The Danish Home of Chicago boutique senior living community will celebrate its 125th anniversary with a savory night of “Cuisine and Spirits” on August 10, featuring some of Scandinavia’s finest dishes created by the award-winning “Viking Chef” Stig Hansen and complementary spirits.

Beginning at 6:00 p.m. at The Danish Home, the evening will join select beer and wines with Chef Hansen’s renowned culinary creations. Beverage pairings will be presented by Beer on the Wall’s owner Ryan Tracy and WineStyles’ owner Emily Wilderman. Guests will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite spirit.

A widely recognized authority on Danish cuisine, Hansen was born and raised in Denmark and was inspired by his mother’s epicurean flair at an early age. His career has taken him to sea, cooking for world-wide freighters and the Danish Navy, and to first-class hotels in Copenhagen and Greenland.

Following immigration to the U.S., Hansen worked at the legendary Scandia Restaurant in Los Angeles and at Nendel’s Inn in Portland, OR. He is an avid supporter of Danish communities wherever he has lived and has played key roles in several Danish organizations.

“We’re thrilled to welcome one of the world’s most distinguished chefs in honor of this momentous anniversary year,” said The Danish Home president and CEO Scott Swanson.

The “Spirit of 125” celebratory year began with a kick-off luncheon in April, followed by an outdoor festival reminiscent of Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen in June.

“Cuisine and Spirits” is open to the public at $125 per person or $900 for a table of eight (includes food, spirits and prize opportunities). Limited seating is available; RSVP required to rsvp125@danishhomeofchicago.org or April Pasquale at 773-775-7383, ext. 4.

The final 125th anniversary event of the year, Lillejuleaften (Danish for “little Christmas”), will feature gifts from Santa and carols around the tree on December 9.

Founded in 1891, The Danish Home provides a safe, comfortable haven for older adults in the quiet Chicago neighborhood of Norwood Park, located at 5656 N. Newcastle Ave. For further information about The Danish Home or 125th anniversary events, visit www.thedanishhomeofchicago.org or www.danishhomeofchicago.org/spiritof125, respectively.
