Developers To Present Plans For Former Giesche Shoe Site
The plan includes more than 8,800 square feet of commercial space and 107 apartments.

GLEN ELLYN, IL --- It's been just over four years since the iconic Giesche Schoes closed its doors in Glen Ellyn and now a developer will present plans for a multi-story luxury apartment complex to be built on the site. The proposed construction, which would include 107 apartments and two floors of parking, will be presented to the public on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Glen Ellyn Civic Center.
The five-story building would occupy the former Giesche site, along with an adjacent parking lot owned by the village between 418 and 432 N. Main St., according to a press release. Plans include nearly 9,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor and two floors of parking spaces for both residents and non-residents of the on-site apartments.
This isn't the first time developers have eyed the long-vacant Giesche site. In 2017, village officials passed on a proposal for a four-story mixed-use space that would have included 48 apartment units and an underground parking garage. That plan was ultimately scrapped.

GSP Development's John Kosich and Larry Debb originally proposed the construction in an informal presentation in May. At that time, the Giesche site proposal included just over 5,300 square feet of commercial space.
Residents are welcome to weigh in on the project at the public meeting, which will mark the developers' first time formally presenting their plans.
