Developers Will Get Money Back If Lawsuit Prevents Gas Station
Glen Ellyn village officials voted that the company can get more than $.5 million back if a lawsuit blocks the controversial gas station.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Village officials have approved a request to refund $630,000 to TrueNorth if a lawsuit gets in the way of their plans to build a gas station at Five Corners in Glen Ellyn. The 4-2 vote to reimburse the developers came during the board's meeting on Monday.
TrueNorth paid $630,000 to secure and the land in 2010, long before plans for the proposed gas station were approved in 2016. TrueNorth would then give up the land to the village.
The decision met with mixed reactions from residents, according to Suburban Life. Glen Ellyn resident David Hartsell told Suburban Life that TrueNorth wants the village to "assume all the risks of the litigation for them."

The litigation is a lawsuit filed in May by a group called Protect Glen Ellyn Inc. in an effort to prevent TrueNorth from building the gas station on a piece of land at 825 N. Main St. that is considered a gateway to the village.
The gas station plans have received ongoing opposition from members of the community, who object to it for reasons that include aesthetic, public health, and public safety.
