District 41 To Increase Police Presence After Texas School Shooting
District 41 shared a message about its safety and support measures in the wake of the Texas school shooting that killed 21 people.
GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn School District 41 plans to work with the village's police department to increase patrols in the wake of the elementary shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas, Tuesday.
Superintendent Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski wrote, "It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you today after watching the news unfold yesterday about the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas that took 21 lives. There are no words that can adequately convey the emotions that something like this stirs up in all of us."
Police presence was increased near schools Wednesday and district officials had requested them to sustain these increased patrols "as much as possible," Kaczkowski wrote.

She added that she had encouraged teachers and other staff to contact counselors, social workers and psychologists at their schools for help fielding questions and concerns from students.
"These horrific and senseless school shootings are incomprehensible to us as adults and even more so for children," Kaczkowski wrote.

She concluded, "We send our heartfelt condolences to all those who lost loved ones yesterday and all who were impacted by this tragedy."
