Dog Freezes To Death: Glendale Heights Couple Charged
The 14-pound dog was left outside on the porch, where it froze.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL — A Glendale Heights couple is facing charges after their dog froze to death after being left outside overnight in bone-chilling temperatures last week, police said. Jonathan Flores-Barona, 26, and wife, Monica Alanas, 21, are charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals after their 14-pound Shih Tzu died, according to police.
Northlake police told the Chicago Tribune that the couple had argued and Flores-Barona dropped his wife's belongings and the 18-month-old dog off at her parents' home in Northlake on Dec. 28. He reportedly made several trips, leaving the last load of items — including the dog — on the front porch.
The family pet, named Terry, was found dead in the morning after being left on the porch overnight, police said.
