Enjoy Student Music Group Performances this March at College of DuPage

The McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage is hosting several concerts in March featuring COD students and faculty, and members of the community. All performances take place at the McAninch Arts Center on the College’s Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.
College of DuPage music program faculty will share their talent and experience during a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the MAC’s Playhouse Theatre.
The DuPage Community Concert Band will perform at 7:30 pm. Monday, March 9, in the MAC’s Belushi Performance Hall. Led by Director Terry Redford, the band will perform “Angels of the Apocalypse” and “Symphony No. 2” (Gillingham), “Folk Tune” (Goossens), “Night on Fire” (Mackey), “Second Suite in F” (Holst) and “Trail of Tears” (Barnes).

Five COD music department student ensembles will present a concert featuring a wide range of works at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in Belushi Performance Hall. The program will begin with Director Ben Wahlund leading the COD Percussion Ensemble in performances of “A La Samba” (Peters) and “Sucker” (as performed by Jonas Brothers, arr. Wahlund).
Director Matt Shevitz will lead the Small Group Jazz ensemble in performances of “Birdland” (Womack), “Birdland” (Zawinul) and “Chameleon” (Hancock).

Director Lee R. Kesselman will lead the Concert Choir in performances of “Dixit Dominus” (Naumann), “Down by the Riverside” (traditional, arr. Gibbs) and “Fields of Gold” (Sumner, arr. Emerson).
Director Philip Bauman will lead the Chamber Orchestra in performances of “Adagio –Theme From Spartacus” (Khachaturian, arr. Longfield), “The Entertainer” (Joplin), “Happy Birthday Variations” (Ludwig/Heidrich), “Passacaglia in G minor” (Handel, arr. Longfield) and “Rhosymedre – Prelude on a Welsh Hymn Tune” (Williams).
Kesselman and the Chamber Singers will conclude the evening with performances of “Abendlied” (Rheinberger), “Autumn” (Chydenius), “Daniel, Daniel, Servant of the Lord” (traditional, arr. Moore), “My Lord, What a Mornin’” (traditional, arr. Burleigh), and “Way Over in Beulah Lan’” (traditional, arr. Gibbs).
Part of the free Music Fridays @ Noon series, music program students will share their skills and knowledge during a student recital at noon Friday, March 20, in the McAninch Arts Center, Room 140.
The DuPage Community Jazz Ensemble will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, in Belushi Performance Hall. Led by Shevitz, the band’s performance will include selections from more than a century of large jazz ensemble compositions, including original work from members of the ensemble.

The Music program at College of DuPage offers the first two years of a baccalaureate music degree program, including coursework in theory and ear training, and a sequence of four class piano courses designed for non-pianists. The program offers associate degrees in music and music business and a certificate in audio production, as well as private lessons in voice, piano, guitar, percussion, and all band and orchestra instruments. Performing groups are open to all students regardless of major, and include Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Chamber Singers, Community Jazz Ensemble, DuPage Chorale, DuPage Community Band, Chamber Orchestra, Small Group Jazz, Percussion Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble.
