Examine Native American Representation Through Art Nov. 19 at College of DuPage

The College of DuPage Native American Studies Committee will host “Reclaiming Representation: Contemporary Native American Poetry and Music” from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Student Services Center, Room 3245, on the College’s main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn.
This event, aligned with Global Education Week and National Native American Heritage month, is free and open to the public.
During this event, College of DuPage Professor of English and Film Studies Deborah Adelman will discuss works by a range of Native American musicians and poets, including Sherman Alexie, Nakho Bear, Louise Erdrich, U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, Buffy Sainte-Marie and A Tribe Called Red, which address misrepresentation, lies and omissions that have characterized the portrayal of Native Americans in U.S. history.
