The Cleve Carney Museum of Art, located at 425 Fawell Blvd. on the campus of College of DuPage, hosts "Insert Coin: Screening & Discussion with Film Dir. Joshua Tsui" in the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) Belushi Performance Hall beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 11. Joining in the discussion will be John Tobias, one of the co-creators of the groundbreaking "Mortal Kombat" fighting game series for Chicago-based Midway.

"Insert Coin" (2020) is the award-winning documentary by filmmaker and Director of Innovation at DePaul University, Tsui. It tells the amazing behind-the-scenes story of the making of "Mortal Kombat," "NBA Jam" and other massive videogame hits. Through intimate and often hilarious interviews the film tells the story of how a small, tight-knit group of friends deal with controversies, next level success, and the roller coaster ride that comes with it.

The film runs 1 hour, 41 minutes. Following the screening, Tsui will lead a panel discussion featuring designers whose work is currently featured in the Cleve Carney Museum of Art's current exhibition “Insert Coin: Inside Midway’s Arcade Revolution” organized by Jonathan Kinkley, Owner and Curator, Chicago Gamespace, and Tsui, in partnership with the Cleve Carney Museum of Art at the College of DuPage.

The exhibition, featuring several classic playable arcade games, fan ephemera and video installations, chronicles the dramatic rise and eventual upheaval behind Chicago’s most prominent manufacturer of video games, Midway Games and is on display through Feb. 16. As the documentary tells the story of how a small, tight-knit team managed controversies, next level success, and the ups and downs of the industry, the exhibition brings this exciting period of gaming history to life, drawing on the larger societal aspects of the gaming world during this time.

Tickets for the "Insert Coin" screening and discussion are $10 (Free for those holding admission tickets to the "Insert Coin" exhibition for Feb. 11.) For tickets, call the MAC Box Office at 630.942.4000 or visit theccma.org.
