Fireside Chats Keep Church Members Laughing and Comforted
Pastor Seth addresses the community in front of his *fire*

First Congregational Church of Glen Ellyn pastor, Rev. Seth Ethan Carey,
wasted no time in doing whatever he could to keep his Glen Ellyn church
connected during this time of change. With in-person gathering impossible, the
church has posted their weekly Sunday morning services online,
moved all meetings to ZOOM and connected through enewsletters, contactless
flower deliveries, signs and videos for graduates and continuaing financial
contributions to our homeless population, food pantries and other missions. But
Pastor Seth went a step further. In the cold of March, he began his video
series of "Fireside Chats", a weekly check-in and information-sharing platform to keep our community up-to-date in this ever-changing environment. What he didn't know was how
entertaining and popular this series would become amongst his faith community.
"Some days, it's a simple choice between laughing or crying; if I can bring folks a bit of cheer,
I'm happy to do it. If I turn into a multimedia sensation along the way, so be
it." joked Pastor Seth.
Now in week 15 of this series of 3-4 minute videos, viewers look to their inbox on Wednesday afternoons forthe latest, and sometimes, silliest-yet-comforting, messages of hope and care.
No one knows when things will be back to normal, but in the meantime, Seth will keep the, well, *fires* burning.
