Following Flint Water Issues, Glen Ellyn Officials Assure Residents of Safe Drinking Water

Glen Ellyn officials say they follow federal guidelines set up to help ensure safe drinking water.

GLEN ELLYN, IL - As the Flint water crisis continues to make headlines, officials in Glen Ellyn are assuring residents that the village follows federal guidelines meant to ensure safe drinking water for its residents. In its recent newsletter, Glen Ellyn officials wrote:

In light of the recent issues that the City of Flint, Michigan has struggled with regarding lead levels in their municipal water system, the Village of Glen Ellyn would like to reassure its water utility customers that the Village is in complete compliance with both the U.S. EPA and the Illinois EPA lead/copper sampling rule.

In 2014, the Village conducted 30 lead/copper samples required by the EPA. Of those 30 samples, 29 came back with no detection of lead. One sample came back as 7.41 ppb lead detected, which is well below the EPA action level of 15 ppb.

These results have allowed for the Village to receive a very good rating from the EPA. The next EPA required lead/copper sampling will take place between July and September of 2017.

The safety of drinking water is a high priority for the Village of Glen Ellyn.
