Glen Crest Student Heads To State GeoBee Finals

Christian Pogorzelski, 13, got a perfect score in the local competition and will head to Normal to compete on March 29.

GLEN ELLYN, IL -- A Glen Crest Middle School seventh-grader is advancing to the state finals for National Geographic's GeoBee after he earned a perfect score in the school's competition. Christian Pogorzelski, 13, then aced a 60-question test online to secure his spot in the state tournament on March 29.

Pogorzelski, who dreams of becoming a politician, said in a news release from District 89 that the first round of testing was "pretty easy." The teen scored among the top 100 students in the state on the online test and expects the state meet to offer up some pretty serious competition.

The statewide National Geographic competition will be held in Normal, Illinois on March 29. In the meantime Pogorzelski is watching old contests to brush up on his geography knowledge.

Thetudent who wins the state GeoBee competition will get qualified for an expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. to visit the National Geographic headquarters.
