Glen Ellyn to Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Filming of 'Lucas'

The Glen Ellyn Historical Society is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the local filming and release of Lucas, which was produced in 1986. There will be two showings of the film and a special program on Saturday, April 30, according to a news release from the Glen Ellyn Historical Society. 

The first showing of the movie will be at 2 p.m. The ticket price of $5 includes popcorn.

At 7 p.m., there will be a featured showing of the movie. Former Glenbard West High School students and other community members will be on hand to share their memories of the filming, according to a news release. Refreshments, including popcorn, will be served. The admission to that special event will be $15 ($10 for GEHS members). Both events will occur at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main Street.

The movie was filmed at locations throughout the suburbs, including locations in Glen Ellyn, including Glenbard West High School, Lake Ellyn Park and at The Glen Theatre, according to IMDb.com. Corey Haim, Kerri Green, Charlie Sheen and Winona Ryder all starred in the romantic comedy where a "socially inept fourteen year old experiences heartbreak for the first time when his two best friends -- Cappie, an older-brother figure, and Maggie, the new girl with whom he is in love -- fall for each other," according to IMDb.com.

The movie is credited with helping to jump start the acting career of former Glenbard West student Tom Hodges who was able to land a speaking role in the movie, Suburban Life Publications reports.

"It was pretty amazing," Hodges, 50, told the newspaper. "I had done a lot of work as an extra prior to 'Lucas,' but I never had a speaking role."

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Stacy’s Corners Store at the History Center, 800 N. Main St. Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, call 630-469-1867.
